Case

A website that could only be edited by touching files on the server

Grupo Anka had a Joomla site that could not be administered. Every change meant editing files on the hosting, and those attempts kept breaking the layout.

The engagement was to replace it with one the team could maintain themselves.

The starting point

  • The site ran on Joomla with no working admin: any change required editing files directly on the hosting.
  • Those edits ended in code errors and broken layouts, with components and styles out of step with the rest of the site.
  • Some pages were not referenced in the project structure, leaving their content outside the navigation.
  • The site did not adapt to mobile screens.
  • Updating any content depended on outside help, which in practice meant not updating it.

What we built

Choosing the base

We started from a template already suited to the business rather than building from scratch.

For a corporate site of this scope, that is the route that cuts time and cost without the result showing it.

Content and section adaptation

Pages and modules were reorganised around the client’s actual needs, with the custom sections the template did not cover.

Basic SEO configuration

Page structure, metadata and the elements search engines need to crawl and index the whole site, which was one of the gaps in the previous one.

Team training

WordPress training so the team can publish and edit on their own.

That was the point of the engagement: without this phase the new site would have repeated the dependency of the old one.

Performance tuning and removal of the old site

Performance adjustments on the finished site, and removal of the old installation from the hosting to free space and avoid conflicts between the two.

Decisions that shaped the outcome

  • An adapted template rather than custom development. The scope was a corporate site with stable content: building from scratch would have multiplied time and cost with no perceptible difference to the visitor.
  • WordPress because the underlying requirement was editorial autonomy. The technology was chosen for what the client had to be able to do afterwards, not for technical preference.
  • Removing the old site from the hosting instead of leaving it switched off. Running two installations side by side creates path conflicts and consumes space for no benefit.

What changed

  • The site adapts to mobile, where most traffic to a corporate site arrives.
  • The team publishes and updates content on its own after training, with no dependency on outside help.
  • Every page is now referenced in the site structure and reachable by search engines.
  • The foundation is ready for dynamic content later, which was the planned next step.
